Working in APHA – Testimonials
-
I have been with the agency for more than 10 years, first in the field services and recently following my interest in pathology I moved to the laboratory department to work as a veterinary investigation officer. I enjoy working closely with veterinary surgeons in practice discussing my findings of the postmortem examination of carcasses submitted from their clients, it is an investigative type of work to diagnose endemic diseases, but always be on alert about the new and exotic ones that can appear in the country. It is a continuous learning path because I am always dealing with different species, from farm animals to wildlife and I never work alone with a good support of experts or experienced colleagues either in the other veterinary centres or at the main laboratory in Weybridge.

I joined after many years in clinical practice to take on a more research based role in pathology, and I love it. Not only is it a very supportive working environment, with a great group of colleagues, but every day is a school day, with lots of opportunities to progress yourself. The pace is very different but there is lots to do – the work is incredibly interesting, and it’s great to be part of a team that can really make a difference. The work life balance is brilliant and can be flexible too.
